Celebrating Longevity and Community at YMCA Cobourg
At the Cobourg YMCA, we believe that staying active isn’t just about movement—it’s about living life to the fullest, no matter your age. That’s why we’re thrilled to introduce 9-Oh Let’s Go, a week-long celebration of resilience, longevity, and community. Kicking off on Monday, April 7, this special event honors those who continue to defy expectations about aging, inspired by the incredible milestone of long-time member Royce McCracken’s 90th birthday.
A Celebration of Strength and Spirit
Royce McCracken is living proof that age is just a number. Having started his fitness journey in 2005, he credits the YMCA for helping him maintain an active and fulfilling lifestyle.
“Staying active scares away depression. I refuse to live and act my age,” says Royce. “I really appreciate the kindness and patience of the Y staff and members.”
Royce’s story reflects the YMCA’s commitment to helping older adults embrace a healthier, more connected life. “Longevity isn’t just about adding years to life—it’s about adding life to years,” says Eunice Kirkpatrick, President and CEO of YMCA Northumberland.
Giving Back: A Fundraiser for Stronger Communities
Beyond celebrating this incredible milestone, Royce and other generous donors are using this event to give back to the community through the YMCA Strong Communities Campaign. This initiative helps provide access to YMCA programs and services for individuals and families, regardless of financial means.
We’re already off to a great start, with $2,500 pledged towards a $9,000 goal, and we’re looking for a match sponsor and donations to help us get there!
How You Can Participate
Starting April 7, all 9-Oh Let’s Go activities are open to the community. While participation is free, we encourage a suggested donation of $20 per activity, with a $10 minimum option available.

TUESDAY 10:15am – 11am : MOVE! Try a special Group Fitness Challenge class called “Grit, Guts & Giving”

WEDNESDAY 9:30am – 12:30pm : LEARN! Its never to later to learn squash. Drop in or signup for a 30 minute rally with tips & tricks

THURSDAY 10am – 11:30am :RIDE! Roll into an extra cycle fit class with Royce!
