At YMCA Northumberland, Pride Month is a time of celebration, reflection, and advocacy for the LGBTQIA2S+ community and allies. With a focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), our family-friendly events create inclusive spaces for people of all backgrounds and orientations to come together.
We kick off our Pride Month celebrations with a flag-raising ceremony on June 2nd at our Cobourg location, symbolizing our commitment to promoting equality and acceptance. The raising of the Progressive Pride flag, a powerful symbol of LGBTQIA2S+ pride, and sets the tone for the month-long festivities.
On June 4th, we are hosting our Association’s first Rainbow Run – a vibrant Run or Walk with a parade-like atmosphere through the streets of beautiful downtown Cobourg. We are inviting families, community organizations, runners, walkers, pets, and strollers to join this colorful and celebratory event! This event is made possible in part by funding from the Government of Canada through the ParticipACTION Community Challenge Grant.
In addition to the flag-raising and Rainbow Run, we are hosting a workshop ” How To Use Pronouns and History of the Pride Flag” as well as a screening of the film “Small Town Pride”. These events promote understanding and acceptance, engaging families in conversations about LGBTQIA2S+ history and rights.
Our Pride Month celebrations prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring that everyone feels welcome and valued. By bringing the community together, we promote understanding, and acceptance, for all!
