An update from our statement in Q1, 2024
On February 05, 2024 we posted the following statement about our progress with the Town of Cobourg:

YMCA Northumberland has a 30-year vision to enhance the well-being of Northumberland residents through various cooperative initiatives that address key social determinants of health. This approach includes providing essential physical infrastructure, investing in diverse programs that encourage active lifestyles for all ages, and partnering with several public sector agencies and government entities to invest strategically and support a flourishing community. In response to this strategic vision, Cobourg Town Council has directed the Town of Cobourg Staff to engage in collaborative efforts with YMCA Staff. The objective is to explore options together aimed at optimizing services for the expanding and diverse community in the spheres of recreation, health, wellness, and children’s services. An update on the progress of these joint initiatives is anticipated to be presented to the Council in the first quarter of 2024. This concerted effort reflects a shared commitment to prioritizing the well-being of Cobourg residents now and in the future.

Since February, a Memorandum of Understanding was approved unanimously by Cobourg Town Council on April 24, 2024 to explore a potential partnership to develop a recreation centre in Cobourg that would serve the recreational needs of the citizens of Cobourg and Northumberland County.
