The Governance Committee respectfully submits the following nominations for the YMCA Northumberland Board of Directors for the period 2026-2029.
Elections for these positions will take place at the Annual Meeting on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Their term of office begins immediately following the adjournment of the aforementioned Annual General Meeting.
MEET THE PROPOSED BOARD MEMBERS
HAIG BARONIKIAN
Brighton
Haig is founder, President and Senior Consultant at eFuel Partners Inc. He has over 40 years of experience in the eLearning, eHealth, telecom and information technology fields and as a management consultant, project leader and training professional. He has also taught at the University of Toronto, the Schulich Executive Education Centre and George Brown College. He has worked in the private, public, educational, as well as charitable sectors.
Haig has been a volunteer throughout his life and has served on various volunteer organization Boards. He has been a YMCA member, initially in Toronto and for the past 12 years at the Brighton Y. He enjoys participating in sports, being in nature, design and architecture, as well as travel. He is the co-author of the textbook, Leadership in Project Management: Leading People and Projects to Success, holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Toronto and is a Professional Engineer.
SUZANNE MCCRIMMON
Cobourg
Suzanne is pleased to bring a strong foundation in economic and community development to YMCA Northumberland. Her interest in joining the Board stems from a deep commitment to supporting inclusive, healthy communities through an organization that plays a vital role in strengthening social well-being across Northumberland County.
Throughout her career, Suzanne has worked extensively across municipal, provincial, and federal levels, supporting businesses through policy navigation, funding access, and strategic growth initiatives. Her background in marketing and investment attraction has enabled her to position communities for growth by developing targeted strategies, promoting entrepreneurship, and building strong relationships.
She looks forward to contributing her experience, strategic perspective, and collaborative approach to help advance the YMCA’s mission and long-term impact in the community.
MICHAEL SHANKAR
Campbellford
Michael is a creative producer and the founder of Procurement Canada Plus (ProCanPlus), a company that supports public sector organizations across Canada. With a background in both participating in and leading creative projects, Michael brings a collaborative, people-first approach to his work. He is passionate about building community and creating opportunities for people to connect, grow, and engage through meaningful programs.
As a family farm owner in Campbellford, Michael has developed a meaningful connection to this community and a deep appreciation for its potential. He is passionate about creating opportunities for youth to build confidence, leadership skills, and strong foundations for the future, areas in which YMCA Northumberland strives to be a community leader.
YVETTE MCCARTNEY
Cobourg (RENEWAL)
Born and raised in Montreal, from immigrant parents, Yvette began her career as a lifeguard for five summers, for the YMCA, while completing her teacher’s degree at McGill University. She also spent time as the Aquatic Director at the West Island YMCA. With over 180 staff serving 20 pools within the area, it was a demanding position that she held for 3 years.
Yvette and her family moved to Cobourg over 30 years ago. They thrived within this fabulous community, especially as members of YMCA Northumberland. As a guidance counsellor and teacher at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School for over 20 years, Yvette coached numerous competitive and non-competitive teams and clubs, as well as organizing several fundraising events within the school community.
By renewing with the YMCA Board of Directors, Yvette is excited to continue supporting an organization that has given her so much, and contribute to the community she loves.
