Peace Week 2024

Peace Week 24

Build Community! Act on Peace!

2024 marks 36 years of celebrating acts of PEACE in Northumberland County! YMCA Peace Week 2024 focuses on fostering cultivating a culture of peace in our communities locally and globally, today and every day. With the UN’s Global Goals in mind, we join YMCAs around the world in activating World YMCA’s global strategy to build a more just, sustainable, equitable, and inclusive world where we can all shine.

We have several activities planned to help support this sentiment by creating spaces that foster belonging and inclusion.

PEACE WEEK EVENTS

Shop for Peace: Saturday, November 16th from 10am to 3pm.

  • Start our Peace Week with the Shop for Peace event at @villagescobourg this Saturday, November 16th from 10 am to 3 pm! Ten Thousand Villages, Cobourg is generously donating a portion of the sales of the day to our global initiatives, which supports our partner, YMCA Nicaragua.

Ten Thousand Villages is more than a store. It’s a place where you can explore and connect with your global village. Every purchase improves the lives of makers by supporting their craft and providing a fair, stable income. Each unique design is handcrafted using local materials (usually natural or recycled) and time-honoured techniques.

By joining the Shop for Peace, you can become part of the story, to shop your values and give gifts with meaning. Because this is bigger than us.

It’s a great time to begin your holiday shopping! Visit Ten Thousand Villages Cobourg at 16 King Street West, Cobourg, ON between 10am and 3pm.

Peace Café: Tues., November 19 from 4 – 7pm and Thurs., November 21 from 10am – noon.

  • Delicious goodies, coffee and tea will be available to purchase in the Cobourg Y Lobby. All proceeds support YMCA Global Initiatives.

Mindfulness & Malas Workshop: Thursday, November 21st from 6 – 8:30pm (registration required).

  • Join us for another Mindfulness and Malas Workshop designed for young minds aged 8-12 years!

  • This enriching experience allows participants to create their own Mala beads, practice gentle yoga, and learn mindful meditation techniques. The workshop aims to enhance body awareness and emotional well-being in a fun and interactive environment. The workshop is free for members and just $7 for non-members.
