STEP 1: ATTEND OUR INFO SESSION
“Become a Personal Trainer” Information Session is being held at the Y in Cobourg and in Brighton.
Learn about the pre-requisite YMCA Basic Fitness Theory Course and the YMCA Personal Trainer’s Certification Course:
- Friday, September 22, 4:00 – 5:00 pm, COBOURG
- Wednesday, September 27, 3:30 – 4:30pm, BRIGHTON
STEP 2: TAKE THE PRE-REQUISITE
Complete the Prerequisite YMCA Basic Fitness Theory Course which runs for 2 days
YMCA Basic Fitness Theory Dates:
- Saturday, September 30, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
- Sunday, October 1, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Fees:
- Members: Free
- Non-Members: $99 + HST = $111.87
The YMCA Basic Fitness Theory Course is available online for staff and Y volunteers. For others, you must complete the in-person training. and submit proof of passing grade of 85% prior to starting the YMCA Trainer Certification Course.
STEP 3: TAKE THE PERSONAL TRAINER CERTIFICATION COURSE
Become a YMCA Certified Personal Trainer through the YMCA Personal Trainer Certification Course. The Course is 6 days long and runs every Saturday for 6 weeks.

- Saturday, October 7, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
- Saturday, October 14, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
- Saturday, October 28, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
- Saturday, November 4, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
- Saturday, November 11, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
- Saturday, November 18, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Fees:
- Members: $349 + HST = $394.37
- Non-Members: $499 + HST = $563.87
Material: The YMCA Trainer Certification Course Manual will be available upon the first day of the YMCA Personal Trainer Certification Course.

- Earn your nationally recognized Personal Training Certification at the YMCA Cobourg in Northumberland. This YMCA Personal Training course is designed to certify you to coach one-on-one or small group training exercises and to help your client set healthy lifestyle goals. This course is comprised of Trainer led sessions (delivered in-person and/or virtually) and self-directed online learning modules hosted on YMCA Canada’s Learning Management System (LMS), supplemented by handouts.
